Ok, I’m indulging in escapism by thinking more about my Joneriwagon AU, no one can stop me. Obviously given their situation they’d need discretion from their household staff. It’s nice to imagine Speedwagon finding others who share his persuasion around Ogre Street who want a better life and helping them get jobs in the Joestar household. It’s mutually beneficial for everyone.

hxh asks you to believe that gon and killua are Very Special Children who are more than qualified to be hunters. you can reject that premise or engage with it, but drawing a line in the sand between the Bad Adults and the exceptions (your faves) is not at all tenable.

so without further ado, 

unappreciated child endangerment moments of hunter x hunter 😳

chapter 1

mito gave gon the parental consent he needed to take the hunter exam, full stop. she didn’t have to, and if his safety was a concern of hers, it somehow wasn’t important enough to bring up to him or her grandmother.

chapter 41

kurapika and leorio’s reactions to watching a child being forced to beat up another child. canary is extremely distressed to have to choose between this and punishment, but they are simply waiting for gon to wear her down, no matter how battered he gets in the process.

chapter 89

leorio encourages gon and killua to hunt the world’s most dangerous criminals for their reward money. he doesn’t go with them (he can’t use zetsu), he doesn’t stop them, and he doesn’t check on them.

chapter 101

no really, he forgot all about them. 

chapter 107

kurapika angsts about letting the children help him hunt down aforementioned criminals who have already captured them, but he does it anyway...guess what happens.

chapter 110

melody is not all concerned that a 12 year old is joining them.

chapter 126

a video game where you could die? he told them to be careful. #responsibility

chapter 223

i’m pretty sure no one’s actually forgotten that knuckle fought gon and was on board with him joining the extermination team, or approves of those actions. i just wanted to poke at whatever cognitive dissonance that makes him “one of the good ones.”

chapter 332

leorio’s election speech, which is often held up as his finest moment, has him comparing himself unfavorably to gon’s “heroism” and fully aware of the danger killua has put himself in to help gon. no condemnation for the adults who allowed them to be in these situations (which would include him for the second case), only praise for his friends’ bravery.

if your reaction to all this is “but these adults CARE about the children!” ask yourself why you find this behavior compatible with care. if it’s because of the suspension of disbelief required for a battle shounen, you’re gonna have extend that same charity to a lot more of the adult characters.
